Normally used by those who travel extensively or who are renting properties, Portable Filters have a rubber tap connector which simply pushes onto the existing tap without the need for any plumbing.
The portable units are available in a variety of sizes. The P24 and P04 models being small and easily transportable are suitable for holiday usage and extremely useful for those wanting to enjoy filtered water wherever they go. The larger P40 and P60 models are best suited to heavier usage in rented homes where fitting an undercounter filter may not be an option.
There are two main types of Portable Filter available, Standard and Heavy Metal Reduction.
Both reduce/remove chlorine to improve taste and assorted toxins (including pesticides) but the Heavy Metal model can also reduce a large variety of heavy metals including lead (from old pipe work), aluminium (often added in treatment of municipal water) and fluoride, whilst in many cases being effective against nitrates too.
The choice of Heavy Metal or Standard is simply a matter of preference. If taste is the main concern a Standard filter is quite adequate. In many cases however, people are aware that many chemicals can be used in treatment of the municipal water and opt for the metal reduction/removal units as they cover a much wider range of contaminants and opt for the additional protection.
